The Chicago White Sox have already proven to be buyers in the trade market this season. The White Sox received Rule 5 pick infielder Gage Workman from the Chicago Cubs this weekend in exchange for cash considerations.
Workman gives the White Sox another young and promising player to develop this season, unlike the Cubs, who are in win-now mode and need to find a sure thing at third base.
With the White Sox being 11 games back (7-21 record) from the Detroit Tigers forst first place in the AL Central, general manager Chris Getz isn’t expected to make many more trades to bring talent in. His goal should be to try and unload 2023 All-Star outfielder Luis Robert Jr. before the trade deadline.
The Chicago White Sox have a Luis Robert Jr. problem

Unfortunately for the White Sox and their rebuild hopes, The Athletic‘s Jim Bowden thinks Robert’s sluggish performance this season will be another setback for the organization.
“Chicago’s best trade chip, Luis Robert Jr., is off to a poor start, slashing .154/.282/.262 with only three extra base hits over 80 plate appearances,” Bowden wrote. “Teams are just not pitching to him and you can see his frustration. In the offseason, the White Sox were looking for two top-10-type prospects in return for Robert, and now they can’t even get one.
“They had hoped the 27-year-old would bounce back and be the 38-homer, 20-stolen base player he was in 2023, but that hasn’t been the case. The White Sox don’t have a lot to trade at the deadline to boost their prospect pool. If Robert doesn’t turn it around fast, it’s going to be tough for them to accomplish their trade goals in-season.”
Robert has a lot of catching up to do if the White Sox want to gain two top-10 prospects.
While there was some understanding that Robert might be slow until the temps rose later in the spring and summer, the center fielder has been a disaster through the first month of baseball. He has just three home runs and eight RBIs this season.
