A day after the trade deadline, we will see a few new look teams throughout the NBA. Derrick Fisher on the Rockets, Nene on the Wizards, and more relevant to this story : Gerald Wallace on the Nets.
The Bulls however, decided to remain exactly the way they were on Tuesday, and almost exactly how they were a year ago.
Even though the Bulls have the best record in the NBA, we won’t really know if they are championship material until that time comes along. We all remember last year’s disappointment when the 62-20 Bulls dropped the Eastern Conference Finals to the Miami Heat four games to one. And with practically no changes to the lineup this year, that could very well happen again.
The acquisition of Rip Hamilton was supposed to take scoring pressure off of Derrick Rose. And when he plays, it kinda does! The only problem with Rip is that he is so brittle, gentle breezes put him on the disabled list for weeks at a time.
But I stray away from our preview of tonight’s game. With Gerard Wallace now on the Nets and Marcus Camby on the Rockets and Mehmet Okur, Shawne Williams, Hasheem Thabeet, and Johnny Flynn now on the Blazers, this is a team that’s going to be very unfamiliar with each other.
Add the fact that the Blazers are 1-4 on their current road trip and only 6-16 out of the Rose Garden on the season, things aren’t boding well for them. Let’s also remember the Bulls are coming off a huge, huge win against Heat on Tuesday. The Bulls are also 11-2 against the West, including a 5-0 home record. Overall, they are 18-3 at home.
However, we still have injuries to worry about. Derrick Rose is doubtful to play tonight. Rip Hamilton will also be out. Did I really even have to write that? I figure it’s just a given by now.
On the Trailblazer’s side, it appears Jamal Crawford will be a game time decision.
What seems like a match-up the Bulls can take advantage of, the Blazers could pull off an upset. These two teams haven’t played since last season, but the Trailblazers have won six of their last eight games against each other.
Tune in tonight at 7:00pm on Comcast Sports Net.
