The Chicago White Sox have a bounty of young prospects that they hope will have major impacts on their major league roster in the coming years.
Two of those prospects, Noah Schultz and Hagen Smith could potentially be top-of-the-rotation pieces for the White Sox for years to come once they debut.
In a new report regarding the two, they will see major changes to their workload for this coming season.
Chicago White Sox top prospects Schultz and Smith
The pair of 21-year-olds are set to do big things for the White Sox this season; With Schultz being the White Sox’s top-ranked prospect and MLB 16th-ranked prospect and Smith No. 3 in the org and 30 for the MLB. Both had outstanding seasons for the White Sox last year with Schultz making it to as high as Double-A last season and Smith only making a handful of outings after being drafted in last year’s draft.
Schultz between High-A and Double-A made a total of 23 starts with a record of 0-4 but had a 2.24 ERA, with 115 strikeouts in 88.1 innings. For Smith, he made three starts going 0-1 with a 3.52 ERA, with 7 strikeouts in 7.2 innings of work.
What’s in store for this season for the young left-handers?
Both of the White Sox’s young left-handers will figure to start down in the minor leagues this season. According to the White Sox pitching coordinator, Matt Zaleski both Schultz and Smith will have their workloads adjusted for this season. Per Zaleski via White Sox Nation:

With this being the case one can only figure that this is preparation to get both of them ready for a post-trade deadline debut. Figuring by that point in the season both (if healthy) at that point will hit that mark.
This is a great sign for White Sox fans given that both Schultz and Smith are main components of the White Sox rebuild. Potentially having both be ready to go at some point this season can only speed things up and make the possibility of countless losing seasons hopefully in the rearview.
