Dayan Viciedo and Brent Lillibridge are two very young, promising looking players. But tonight, they were not promosing, they were the reason the Sox were able to win their 5th straight.
It didn’t take long for the Sox to get rolling after the 2 hour 30 minute rain delay, as Paul Konerko was able to pick up the RBI double scoring Ramirez and Rios, giving the Sox the early 2-0 lead. The Angels would be able to get one back in the 5th as Wood scored on the RBI single by Howie Kendrick. In the 6th the rookie third basemen Dayan Viciedo hit a line drive to deep left field, bouncing off the wall which scored Alex Rios. Lillibridge did him one better as he knocked in two with the 2 RBI single. A bizarre play would score Aybar in the 8th as Torii Hunter hit one to Omar who dropped it, it was then Alexei Ramirez with a throwing error to Gordon Beckahm, which let Aybar score.
Freddy Garcia showed why he has been our best pitcher this year as he went 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and 0 earned runs. JJ Putz was able to pitch a perfect 7th inning where he was able to strike out two batters . Santos allowed one run in the 8th but it was not an earned run because of the error. Matt Thornton was able to get out of the mess that was the 8th innings with a strike out. Big Bad Bobby Jenks came in, in the 9th and sat down the Angels 1, 2, 3, giving the Sox the 5-2 win.
The Sox will look for the 4 game sweep tomorrow, at 1:05 pm CT.
