The Chicago Cubs jumped out to an 8-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings on Friday night, hitting four home runs in the process.
But the fifth was the most important one.
After the Baltimore Orioles came back from the 8-run deficit to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth, Cubs shortstop Addison Russell stepped to the plate and broke that tie rather quickly.
Russell sent a shot into the stands in left field to give the Cubs a 9-8 lead. It would be the game-winning run:

It was the fifth home run on the night for the Cubs as they broke out the bats to open up the second half.
For the Cubs, it was looking like the second half was going to be a repeat of the first after blowing that lead.
There are still some concerns, however. The Cubs bullpen wasn’t very good outside of Carl Edwards Jr. as they gave up the lead late in the game.
But they were saved by Russell and the Cubs opened a key six-game road trip with a win.
