They got off to a slow start in Tuesday’s matinee game against the Detroit Tigers at Wrigley Field but now the Chicago Cubs are right back in it.
After trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning, starter Kyle Hendricks was in some trouble. The Tigers had runners on 1st and 2nd with one out in the inning and pitcher Michael Fulmer up at the plate.
On a 1-1 count, Fulmer squared to bunt as he looked to advance the runners over but it didn’t work out that way thanks to some excellent defense by the Cubs.
Watch as Anthony Rizzo fields the bunt on the third base side to start a 3-5-4 double play:

The momentum carried over into the bottom half of the inning as the Cubs got doubles from Albert Almora and Jason Heyward to plate two runs before Rizzo’s single tied it.
The Cubs went on to win the game 5-3 and notch their fifth-straight win. They will be at worst a game behind the Brewers for the lead in the NL Central on Fourth of July depending on Milwaukee’s game with Minnesota.
