On Jan. 5, Chicago Bears principal owner Virginia McCaskey turned 102. The Matriarch of the Bears was born in 1923 and took over as an executive of the team in 1983.
McCaskey oversaw the Bears when they won Super Bowl XX over the New England Patriots for the 1985 season.
Chicago Bears: Four decades of rebuilding
They’ve been rebuilding ever since…
Virginia’s son, George McCaskey, has been the team’s chairman since 2011. The Bears have made two playoff appearances, winning none since he took over as chairman.
Chicago has been unfathomably bad in the last decade. Even more recently, the Bears will enter their Week 18 contest against the Green Bay Packers (a team they’ve lost to 11 straight times) having won 14 total games in three seasons.
At the end of the Bears’ 6-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks at Soldier Field on Dec. 26, Bears fans chanted for the McCaskey’s to “sell the team.”
Bears fans do not wish Virginia McCaskey a happy birthday
When the Bears posted a happy birthday message for Virginia, the replies were more of a continuation of what fans expressed during the team’s 12th loss of the season. (It’s not exactly a nice way to respond to someone who has managed to live for 102 years on the planet, but some Bears fans are tired of being nice.)

“Plz don’t leave the team to George. He has not the slightest clue what he is doing. Sell it to bezos or something do it for the city of Chicago and its fans,” suggested a fan.
“25th Amendment,” asked a fan.
“What a great way to celebrate!!! Losing by 30 to the Packers!! Enjoy your birthday with the team you and your family have completely ruined,” wrote another.
“Don’t care sell the team,” commented a fan.
“Glad she made it long enough to watch the bears lose their 12th in a row to the packers! George must be so proud,” posted another.
“What a coincidence that her birthday is today. Facing the Packers and going to lose to them AGAIN. Sell the team, Fire Ryan Poles, Hire Ben Johnson,” argued a fan.
