Another key piece in the Chicago White Sox rebuild is on his way up to the major leagues.
White Sox manager Rick Renteria revealed before Sunday’s game vs. the Minnesota Twins that pitching prospect Dylan Cease will be called up to make his MLB debut on Wednesday. Cease will pitch the first game of a double header vs. the Tigers:
Cease was acquired in the deal that sent pitcher Jose Quintana to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Cease and Jimenez back in 2017. Eloy was added to the opening day roster this season and has been on a tear as of late.
Now the White Sox are calling up Cease, the final part of that trade in hopes of giving a boost to the rotation.
After the series against the Tigers, the White Sox will host the Cubs at Guaranteed Rate Field for a two-game weekend set beginning on Saturday as both teams have Friday off. Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez will get the starts, so Cease will not face his former team.
