The Chicago White Sox were the biggest winners on day 1 of the Winter Meetings in San Diego.
The Sox acquired starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija from the Oakland A’s for infielder Marcus Semien, pitcher Chris Bassitt and a player to be named later according to reports. But the Sox weren’t done yet.
They also signed free agent reliever David Robertson to a 4-year deal worth $46 million. Robertson will help boost one of the worst bullpens in baseball last season.
Samardzija is projected to be the teams number two starter behind ace Chris Sale and ahead of Jose Quintana.
