The Chicago White Sox made a shocking move today in naming Robin Ventura the manager who will succeed Ozzie Guillen in 2012. Many were speculating that Dave Martinez or Terry Francona would be the likely replacements and even Ryne Sandberg’s name was mentioned, but in the end, the Sox went with a wild card.
A new direction was necessary after a season with so much promise and hope ended with the Sox finishing 4 games under .500. Sox GM Ken Williams said Ventura was always at the top of his list. About Ventura: “I wanted someone who met very specific criteria centered around his leadership abilities. Robin Ventura was that man. ”
