As long as the Chicago White Sox are under the control of Jerry Reinsdorf, I don’t expect this team to really get any better than they are right now.
With both the Sox and Bulls, it’s apparent that Reinsdorf isn’t at all interested in tearing the team down and rebuilding from the ground up, which is what you need to do in order to get out of sports hell known as mediocrity.
Look at the Cubs now versus where they were in 2010.
Having said that, and despite their recent hot streak against said Cubs, I believe that the White Sox should trade one of their star pitchers. And no, it is not the problem child that is Chris Sale.
Sale’s antics are something to be noted and something to be handled in the offseason. But let’s be honest here: Sale is one of the five best pitchers in the game today and is on an insane contract that only pays him $32.5 million over the next five years. It would take an insane offer for the White Sox to move him and even then, I’m not sure upper management pulls the trigger.
Jose Quintana, however, is a horse of a different color.
Quintana, who is 8-8 on the year with a 2.97 ERA, 116 strikeouts and a 1.105 WHIP, is one of the most underrated pitchers in the game, at least from a national standpoint. He is not, however, Chris Sale, and that means he can get moved for the right price.

By all means, if the White Sox get the right number of prospects they should pull the trigger. Quintana is a good pitcher and a good guy – I think he’s a #3 or #4 option on a World Series club.
But going forward, it’s not as if the Sox can’t survive without him.
With Sale, Carlos Rodon (who will get better), Carson Fulmer eventually making his way to the rotation, Spencer Adams looking like a promising arm, plus the quiet brilliance of Miguel Gonzalez and James Shields, the White Sox have plenty of quality arms to choose from.
Make the deal, Jerry. Show me the prospects!
