Saturday’s win over Cal did not come without a steep price for the Northwestern Wildcats. Starting redshirt junior cornerback Daniel Jones has suffered left knee injury and is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Jones appeared to get hurt in the second quarter while defending a pass in the endzone. To add insult to injury, he was also flagged for pass interference on the play. After defending the pass, he appeared to stumble awkwardly and did not get up.
Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald said that Jones will have to undergo surgery on his left knee. Because he is a redshirt junior, Jones will have to petition the NCAA to get a sixth year of eligibility.
After Jones left the game, redshirt freshman Dwight White took his spot. White was beaten for beaten for two touchdowns by Cal receiver Chris Harper. White will also be competing with redshirt junior C.J. Bryant for Jones’s starting spot.
