Could we see a former Chicago Cub join the Cubs coaching staff next season? Tom Loxas of the LoXas factor says he’s been told the Cubs have had internal discussions about the Cubs bringing Bill Buckner up to the majors. He’s currently the short season Boise Hawks hitting coach.
The Cubs are prepared to let go hitting coach James Rowson either way. If it’s not Buckner, the Cubs will have a new hitting coach next year. No one knows for sure if assistant hitting coach Rob Deer will be back.
The decision on whom is the next hitting coach next season could be up to the new manager if Dale Sveum is let go. If Sveum does stay, the next hitting coach may not come from him and up to the front office. We will know Monday on what happens with Sveum and the rest of the coaching staff.
Some people in the Cubs organization feel Buckner means too much for Boise as an instructor and don’t want him to leave down below for the Cubs.
A lot of Cub fans want to see more former Cubs on the coaching staff and could Buckner be the first one to do so? Only time will tell and no one knows what the future holds.
