The Chicago White Sox have some interesting roster decisions to make in the next few weeks. With shortstop Tim Anderson still on the shelf for possibly another two weeks, Danny Mendick has filled in and done a decent job thus far. However, with how poorly Josh Harrison has played this season, it would be a good opportunity to call up second baseman Yolbert Sanchez from AAA.
It would not necessarily be a shock if the White Sox decided to DFA Harrison, given that they just DFA’d pitcher Dallas Keuchel, who’s contract is much larger. Lance Lynn is rumored to only need one more rehab start in Charlotte before he is brought back up to the major league roster. Eloy Jimenez is also nearing his return to the White Sox. This leaves very little leeway for the White Sox to call up Sanchez after these incoming roster moves.
The best time is now with Anderson on IL with a strained groin.
White Sox 2021 Success on Call Ups
In fact, last year the White Sox called up Yermin Mercedes, Romy Gonzalez, Gavin Sheets, and even Jake Burger throughout the season. Players like Mercedes and Sheets provided big sparks for the team when they were called up. This years team could use a similar spark early right about now. Last years players that got promoted really stepped up and helped the team win games while key players recovered from injuries.
Yolbert Sanchez Consistent Stats in the Minors
Sanchez has played 14 games in AA this year, posting a batting average of .353 with a OBP of .508, with 18 hits and 13 walks before being called up to AAA, were he has now played 31 games.
He is batting .294 with an OBP of .364, 35 hits and 11 walks so far in AAA.
Sanchez is not a power hitter by any stretch but he gets on base at a great rate and is very patient at the plate. A player that works the count and gets on base is something the White Sox desperately need with Anderson out of the lineup. Compared to what Harrison is producing right now, there is little doubt that Sanchez can’t perform better.
The White Sox farm system is nowhere near what it used to be, but there is still talent capable of performing well at the major league level. Sanchez is one to watch for this year, especially with the struggles of Harrison at second base. Sanchez is a second baseman but can also play shortstop.

it is important to note that Harrison has been getting less playing time as of late, which makes you wonder if the White Sox are indeed considering giving Sanchez a call up and perhaps cut ties with Harrison, like they did with Keuchel.
