The Chicago Cubs completed a three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins in what was a much-needed series win on the Northside. After taking game one by a large margin, the Cubs were able to beat Miami on Tuesday 4-3.
On Wednesday, they brought out the bats again and used an eight-run third inning to go up big on Miami and eventually winning 13-4.
There were a few Cubs that had big games including Kris Bryant who hit his 100th career home run. Anthony Rizzo and Addison Russell both had big days at the plate with each hitting a home run. But it was Willson Contreras who did something that a Cubs catcher hasn’t done in over 40-plus years.
Contreras went 3-for-5 at the plate on Wednesday, driving in a run and scoring two more. He had two triples on the day and became the first Cubs catcher to record two triples in a game since the 1970’s.

The Cubs really needed a sweep of Miami at home after returning from being swept in St. Louis over the weekend. At the very least they needed a series win as they now prepare to host the White Sox at Wrigley Field beginning Friday.
