Willson Contreras appears to be in-line for a spot in the 2022 MLB All-Star Game for the National League
On Tuesday morning, Major League Baseball released the first All-star voting update. The 2022 All-Star Game is set for July 19th at Dodger Stadium. With the Chicago Cubs struggling greatly this season, it’s no surprise that the voting returns are sparse in terms of Cubs’ representation.

The few Cubs that made this list include Nico Hoerner, Ian Happ, Patrick Wisdom, and of course, Willson Contreras. Hoerner, Happ, and Wisdom will need far more votes to represent the Cubs at Dodger Stadium next month. On the other hand, Willson Contreras leads all other NL catchers by over 300,000 votes. If this trend continues, he will undoubtedly be a starting catcher in this year’s All-Star game.
You may have also noticed another notable name within these lists. Currently, sitting in 2nd place at the designated hitter position is Willson’s brother, William Contreras. William is having a breakout season for the Atlanta Braves. The success that the Contreras brothers are enjoying this season is making it increasingly likely that they will become All-star teammates next month.
Another likely situation is that Willson Contreras isn’t even representing the Cubs at All-Star weekend. The league’s trade deadline is less than two weeks after the All-Star game Since Contreras is seen as the Cubs’ most valuable trade piece, a situation where Contreras gets traded before All-Star weekend is not out of the realm of possibility. Fans are hopeful that the Cubs decide to resign Contreras, but the likelihood of that seems grim.
All-star voting continues until June 30th, and fans can vote here up to 5 times per day.
