Wrigley Field will be one of many venues for people in Chicago to experience an incredible fireworks display to celebrate the Fourth of July but there is something quite special about the fireworks show at the 101-year old ballpark tomorrow night.
Tomorrow marks 100 years to the date that the Chicago Whales hosted a Fourth of July celebration at Wrigley Field which was then known as Weeghman Park. The festivities included a fireworks show as well as music and dancing. Our nation has changed a lot since that Fourth of July celebration 100 years ago but one thing remains unchanged… the charm of Wrigley Field.
Tomorrow is the first time in the ballpark’s history that the Chicago Cubs will be hosting a fireworks show. The show will begin soon after the Miami Marlins vs. Cubs game concludes tomorrow night. Fans attending the game are welcome to stay after the game ends to wait for the fireworks to begin. There will be a brief intermission between the end of the game and the start of the fireworks show. The fireworks will be launched from different parts of the ballpark.
In addition to the fireworks, other celebrations include “Military Heroes Day” which will honor our nation’s heroes before the game. The pre-game celebration will have an oversized American flag displayed on the field with 100 members of the USO of Illinois, a military “Take the Field” experience and decorative bunting around Wrigley Field. The Marlins and Cubs will both wear patriotic uniforms during the game which will start at 6:15 PM.
