The 15th season for the Chicago White Sox’ was one to forget. The White Sox finished with a 41-121 record in one of the worst, if not the worst season in modern MLB history.
A key veteran on the team was injured for most of the season before the White Sox chose not to use him much on the active roster in September. Yoan Moncada battled a strained adductor on April 10 and was not activated again until Sept. 16.
In Chicago’s final 12 games, the third baseman had only one at-bat, a pinch-hit opportunity that ended in a strikeout. He finished the season with a .275 batting average and 11 hits.
Following the season, the White Sox declined his team option and Moncada signed with the Los Angeles Angels in free agency on Sunday.
Yoan Moncada has a message for the Chicago White Sox
Per Sam Blum of The Athletic, Moncada admitted Chicago’s decision not to play him was “rough” but respects the business decision.
“It’s no lie that I had a rough year last year, and we know what happened with Chicago,” Moncada said. “But at the same time, I have to respect the decision that was made. And I have to deal with it. But now that’s in the past, and I’m ready to go.”

Moncada could have signed with other clubs that would have made him an everyday third baseman or used him as a second baseman or utility infielder. The 29-year-old often-injured athlete chose the Angels because he wanted to be teammates with Mike Trout.
He’s also excited to play with his former White Sox teammates Tim Anderson and Yolmer Sanchez.
“It feels good having old teammates with me in the clubhouse,” Moncada said. “It helps make this transition a whole lot smoother.”
The Angels are set to have a core that the White Sox thought would win them a World Series.
